Saturday 2nd April – bike ***** – Around Felixstowe including lunch at Levington Marina – sunny and breezy but a tad chilly.

April continues to be great, after yesterday’s exciting big sea prom walk, we had a lovely bike ride around Felixstowe enjoying the best that Suffolk has to offer. Had I realised earlier that we were going to have a good NE breeze I was too late for the tide at Bradfield and there was not much beach at The Dip so after doing my exercises in the sunny back garden, amazing really as we had snow first thing yesterday! I packed lunch and we decided to bike over to Levington Marina and pay my yearly subscription of £60, worth every penny too as I sailed there 61 times over the last year making it a pound a visit and with a hot shower every time what is there not to like:) We did not leave home until around 1.15 making our way past the mega warehouse and out into beautiful Suffolk countryside set against a ‘Simpson’ Sky as we make our way through the tree lined route, nice and quiet too, spotting 3 buzzard circling above. We spot some deer in the three tree field which still smells of rotting cabbage and down to Loompit Lake. The tide is high on the Orwell and the bumpy path around the lake is fairly busy! We see our first bluebells of the year as we bike along side the marina, heading to the office first to pay. That complete we head to the picnic area which is a mass of daisy’s and being sheltered from the breeze by the trees we enjoy our picnic with stunning views across the Orwell, just perfect:) Well rested we take the inland route back across the bridle way, over the massive footbridge over the railway, around the academy as Mag heads for home while I make a detour through The Grove woods and out onto Gulpher road leading to The Dip to see if anyone is making the most of the breeze. Mark Swain is there with his son Nick and a mate taking it in turns on Swainy’s new news, his wing foiling gear. The breeze and sea looked ideal being pretty flat with the tide now dropping, sadly they were underpowered with the 4m wing and did not get flying and it was also a tad on the chilly side to be learning something new! It was good fun to watch but I think I will give winging a miss and stick to Windsurf foiling which I am loving, I hope to get out for the first sail of the month on Monday, fingers crossed the rain stays away!
